He was only free to kill because of an early release for good behaviour, after multiple rape convictions saw him jailed in 1989.

He killed with impunity for many months because none of his victims’ bodies were found until the following year.

It wasn’t until they discovered mass graves of similarly raped and strangled women that they realised they had a serial killer.
