As a result of his violent and unpredictable nature, James Robertson spent 20 years in close management confinement. In 2008, he hatched a plan to get out of close management and on to death row. I Am A Killer gives those serving life sentences, the opportunity to tell their story from their own perspective while interviews with the victims, their families and detectives allow viewers to see both sides of the story. This thought-provoking and emotionally confrontational approach brings you ‘face to face’ with a killer making it impossible to watch without your opinions constantly changing during the course of the episode. The first season was hailed by critics as true crime at its most ’brutal, captivating and unsettling’, and re-opened the debate over rehabilitation and restitution in America’s criminal justice system.
