Jonestown was meant to be a testament to the beliefs of their cult leader Reverend Jim Jones that a new type of community was possible. Instead, it became the last stand for him and his followers.

The fatally flawed personality of its leader was intrinsic to one of the greatest mass suicides in history, but so to was the group psychology of human beings in crowds.

Neither properly explains how parents willingly poisoned their children...
