Great Train Robber Ronnie Biggs uses rope ladder to escape prison

They may have escaped with Britain’s then biggest ever robbery if they hadn’t played Monopoly and left their fingerprints on the game pieces in the gang’s safe-house.

But Biggs was determined to get out of jail and the gang initially tried to bribe their way out of prison.

Charlie Wilson was the first to escape. Security was increased on the others but not enough to prevent rope ladders being thrown over the perimeter.
