The Serpent: Conversations With A Killer

Charles Sobhraj is believed to be responsible for 12 to 24 killings during a decade-long spree. He preyed on tourists travelling through southeast Asia’s ‘Hippie Trail’ during the 1970s and was suspected of drugging and killing his victims before stealing their identity.

After being in prison for 19 years, a Nepali court ordered his release in December 2022, cutting short his life sentence.

This series delivers an unprecedented portrait of one of the world’s most notorious criminals through a series of unpublished conversations, that were discreetly recorded from the culprit’s jail cell. It also features testimonies from those who knew him best – including ex-girlfriends – along with archives of manuscripts written by Sobhraj and recent interviews following his controversial release.

The Serpent: Conversations With A Killer is available to stream on Crime + Investigation Play from Sunday, 9th July.
