Trial begins of the then UK’s worst serial killer Dennis Nilsen

A photograph of a courtroom

Homicidal necrophiliac Dennis Nilsen stood trial for the serial killing of 15 men. Often preying upon the homeless in London, he might never have been caught if he hadn't run out of storage place for his victims.

Once arrested, however, he confessed to everything to such an extent that he filled 50 notebooks detailing his depraved activities. But on this date, he pleaded not guilty by reason of diminished responsibility.
