Born in Brooklyn, his Irish family came to England, which is where he falsely applied for a British passport.

In 1939 he went to Germany for the war and proceeded to broadcast propaganda on the radio and was viewed initially as a ludicrous joke helping him earn his nickname, Lord Haw Haw.

His speeches were absurdly violent, his politics so extreme as to inspire disbelief and even amusement.

But, as war intensified and propaganda became ever more important, Joyce became a danger...
