Serial killer and necrophiliac Dennis Nilsen is born

A photograph of a roadsign that reads 'Welcome to Scotland'

There is little in this Scottish-born serial killer’s background to suggest why he briefly entered English history as the country’s number one serial killer.

He didn’t suffer a head injury, wasn’t made to cross-dress as a boy, nor was he sexually or physically abused as a child.

And apart from the death of his grandfather, nothing properly explains what made this lonely man into a monster that murdered so that corpses could keep him company...
