Myra was born in a manufacturing area of Manchester during the Second World War. Her father, scarred by service, did not settle back into civilian life and was largely absent during her childhood.

She was much loved by other parents, however, who relied on her as a babysitter. The death of a teenage best friend led to her conversion to Catholicism. She entered adulthood doing clerical work which is where she met Ian Brady.

She converted to his sick philosophy and raped and killed five children...
