Edward Smith used a duplicate set of keys to walk into the City Bank on Wall Street New York on a Sunday on this date in 1831. He stole $245,000 and entered American history as the first ever man to rob a United States bank.

He was also caught later that week, convicted and entered Sing Sing prison to do five years hard labour.
