Sarah’s parents had spent the last 16 days hoping for any other end than this. It had started when Sarah went missing after playing in fields near her grandparents.
A local paedophile, Roy Whiting, had been jailed for kidnapping and assaulting a nine-year old girl five years before and he was eventually jailed for Sarah’s murder.
The killing led to calls to mimic ‘Megan’s law’ in the US where parents can access information on paedophiles after a similar tragedy.
The law has not been changed.
