The day before, Shaun Russell, a doctor of philosophy, had returned from his job as a university lecturer in Canterbury to find that neither his wife, Lin Russell, also a doctor, nor his two daughters, Josie and Megan, were home.

They were meant to have been coming back from a swimming gala at the girl’s school. At 10.45 pm he rang the police. On this morning, the police found the bodies of Lin and Megan.
