Was he mad or was he just bad and after money? Such semantics were beyond Haigh’s previous boss and first victim, ‘Mac’ McSwan as he dissolved in a barrel of sulphuric acid. Haigh later said he killed ‘Mac’ out of blood lust but John Haigh was a convicted fraudster and ‘Mac’ had money and property. Murdering and then dissolving the evidence was simply a logical escalation of previous schemes. What is certain is that his ‘compulsion’ to kill again didn’t seem to trigger till the cash from the ‘Mac’ murder ran out...
