Madeleine McCann’s mother named as suspect in disappearance

When the pretty daughter of attractive middle class couple the McCann’s disappeared in Portugal, the British media went mad. When the Portuguese police named the mother Kate as an ‘aguida’, a suspect, many of the tabloids treated this as proof of her guilt. Kate and later her husband were vilified. A year later, one newspaper group would pay £550,000 over these allegations.
