The Serpent: Conversations With A Killer

Charles Sobhraj is believed to be responsible for 12 to 24 killings over a decade-long spree. He preyed on tourists travelling through southeast Asia’s "Hippie Trail" during the 1970s and was suspected to drugging victims, killing them, and stealing their identity. After being in prison for 19 years, a Nepali court ordered his release in December 2022, cutting short the life sentence. This series delivers an unprecedented portrait of one of Asia’s most notorious criminals through a series of unpublished conversations discreetly recorded from the culprit’s jail cell, testimonies of those who know him best – including ex-girlfriends - along with archives and manuscripts written by Charles Sobhraj himself. The series also includes recent interviews of the Sobhraj after his release. The Serpent: Conversations With A Killer is available to stream on Crime+Investigation Play from 9th July.
