While boys and young men continue to commit the vast majority of violent and serious crime, girls under the age of eighteen now comprise the fastest-growing group of criminal offenders in America. Since 1967, the number of female juveniles arrested for violent crimes has increased 345%, nearly three times the increase for boys. Girls in inner city gangs have been cited as one of the most identifiable sources of this growing trend. Why are so many girls going bad and what can be done to turn this trend around?
