In a last ditch effort to save her marriage, after years of verbal and physical abuse, a woman arranges a meeting with a church therapist. When her drunk, angry husband arrives, a shootout ensues, leaving both wounded. Now, he's in prison and she's in counselling, trying to get on with her life and understand why she stayed so long in a relationship that nearly killed her.

Nearly a million domestic abuse cases are reported annually, and it's been estimated that more than four million American women experience a serious assault by an intimate partner each year. Why is so much violence committed in the name of love and how is the justice system responding to this crisis?
