Snatched / A Detective's Promise
On a quiet Sunday in September 1992, six-year-old Corrine "Punky" Gustavson is snatched in broad daylight from her own backyard in Edmonton, Alberta and is later found raped and murdered. No-one has seen the perpetrator aside from Lindsey, Corrine’s five-year-old friend, who cannot give detectives a clear description of the man. A shocked and frightened community does its best to help police find the killer, to no avail. Years later, with forensic advancements in DNA testing, a small amount of semen is discovered on Corrine’s clothing. Analysts construct a DNA profile, upload it onto Canada’s National DNA Databank, and in January of 2003, it finds a match to a convicted sex offender named Clifford Sleigh. When confronted with the DNA evidence, Sleigh confesses to the crime. In May of 2005, Sleigh is found guilty of murder in the first degree and sentenced to life in prison. On 30 October 1994, 18-year-old Camillia Randall, a free spirit who often hitchhiked, is found not only brutally raped and murdered, but with her heart and lungs missing. The detective who discovers her body, vows to find her killer. A rape kit is collected and sent for forensic DNA profiling. The case goes cold when investigators cannot find a suspect to match the DNA profile. Nearly seven years later, in August 2001, CODIS returns a DNA match to convicted sex offender Robert Wigley. On 9 September 2003, Wigley goes to trial and is found guilty of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison without the chance of parole. SPECIAL FEATURES
