Crime Central: Hit Man, Family Man
Coming Soon

Elizabeth and Richard DeCaro were just one of the thousands of St. Louis couples who headed out the suburbs in the 1980's - even if their life together had started out more like an after school special than the American Dream.

In 1981, when he got Liz pregnant at age 16, Rick was a hot-rodding high-school dropout working at his parent's garage. But marriage agreed with Rick and, by 1986, he was managing the garage and managed to move Liz and their growing family into the middle-class St Louis suburb of St. Charles.

But in the fall of 1991, not long after the birth of their 4th child, things took an unexpected turn. Rick had an affair. He confessed to Liz and the couple appeared to be on the road to reconciliation. But it would turn out be a bumpy ride.

On Super Bowl Sunday, 1992, Rick almost ran over Liz in the family's van. Bizarre as the freak accident was, it was only the beginning.

Within a couple of weeks the van would be stolen from the DeCaro's driveway and torched. And Rick seemed as determined as ever to get the DeCaro marriage back on track.

In March, he announced that, so Liz could enjoy some time alone, he was going to take all four children on a "daddy's weekend" to the Lake of the Ozarks. But was the trip a chance for the DeCaro's to make a fresh start or merely an alibi?

On Friday March 6th, just hours after Rick and the kids left for the Ozarks, Liz was supposed to meet her sister for dinner. When Lizabeth didn't show, her sister went to the DeCaro house to see if anything was wrong.

Something was. Elizabeth was face down on the kitchen floor, shot in the back of the head. Plus her Chevy Blazer and several electronic items were missing from the house.
