Microsoft, Starbucks and Boeing may all call the city home, but Seattle will forever be famous for the grungy guitar riff that rejuvenated rock and rolls rebellious roots. As raw and rank as rain-soaked flannel, the Seattle sound of bands like Nirvana and Pearl Jam was pure adolescent angst: anarchic, nihilistic and as dark and gloomy as the city’s infamous weather. But in 1993, a different sort of gloom hung of the city - and this time the angst wasn't an affectation.
