Missing Informant / Man's Best Friend
Christine Elkins, dealt methamphetamines for 18 months until she was arrested in 1989 and became an informant for the Dept. of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms. The ATF's main focus was to arrest local bad guy Tony Emery, who controlled meth sales in northwest Missouri. Agent James advised Elkins to stay away from him until the drug arrest. That was the last time James saw Elkins alive. In 1996, the Elkins case is reopened. Agents troll a six-mile stretch of river to find Christine's car. They find the identifying license plate and then the Cutlass. Inside reveals a skeleton in the trunk. A jury finds Tony Emery guilty of first degree murder and sentences him to life without parole. And in 1991, a one-room flat burns to the ground, the fire however is merely a smokescreen for murder. Inside the apartment, 81 year-old Daniel Schraeder is found beaten to death. In a shed outside, Schraeder's dog is also found bludgeoned to death Suspicion quickly envelops William Faulconer, a drifter who used to hang around the apartment. Police question Faulconer but he is found to have a solid alibi. Six years later the case is reopened. They reexamine the coroner's report and now place the time of death hours before Faulconer was booked into jail. Cold case detectives then turn to DNA tests. Test results establish that the blood on Faulconer's jeans is the victim's. The rest is from the dog found outside the house. SPECIAL FEATURES
