Women Behind Bars: Cindy Countess and Jennifer Blake
Tuesday 20 Jan 11.00PM

Cindy Countess, the fourth of five children, was a bright talented, and vivacious young woman. Following her graduation from school in the early 1970s, Cindy married for the first time.

Sadly, the marriage ended soon after the wedding and Cindy moved to Nashville to pursue a career in country and western singing, where she enjoyed success. It was during this time that Cindy met her second husband, Danny, who was also involved in the music industry.

The couple moved to Las Vegas in the 1990s. Following her father's death in 2001, Cindy cared full-time for her sickly mother, Edna. An extremely exhausted and stressed Cindy had an argument with her mother that resulted in Edna's death.

Cindy claimed to have no recollection of the details of what happened but the case went to court and resulted in her being found guilty of murder in the second degree. In 2004 Cindy Countess was sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Jennifer Blake lost her virginity around the age of 15 and would have sex with boys purely for the few moments of holding and tenderness they may show her afterwards. Starved of affection, Jennifer spent all her energy on developing these ultimately unfulfilling and unhealthy relationships. Then she met Cory Jackson, who became her boyfriend.

On 11th December 2000, Jennifer and Cory suffocated and strangled Jennifer’s mother, Kathy Kraynik. Cory claimed during the trial that Jennifer's motive for killing her mother had been that she believed Kathy would testify against her in a custody matter involving Jennifer's eldest daughter, Jasmine. This was completely untrue.

Cory testified against Jennifer in exchange for a lighter sentence. Jennifer was found guilty of first degree murder and sentenced to life in prison.
