Lisa and Kosta Fotopoulos were known as one of the more prominent, successful couples in Daytona's thriving Greek-American community. But that all came to an end suddenly, on 4 November, 1989, when an intruder broke into their home.

Shortly after 4am, an assailant pumped a single gunshot point-blank into Lisa's temple. Kosta (pictured) grabbed his own gun from under the bed and fired eight rounds into the gunman, killing him.

Incredibly, Lisa was still alive - even talking - and paramedics rushed her to the hospital. The now-dead intruder was quickly identified as a local kid, 18-year-old Bryan Chase. By killing Chase before he could fire off a second shot, Kosta had saved Lisa's life. Kosta was a hero.

The next day, a man called 911 and said that he had been offered money to kill Lisa Fotopoulos, much like the now dead Bryan Chase. He said the offer was made by Lisa's husband, Kosta. He also said a woman named Deidre Hunt was his right hand. Twenty-one-year-old Deidre Hunt had arrived in Daytona after fleeing her sketchy past back East. She was hired as a part-time bartender at Kosta's pool hall and in short order became his full-time lover.

In a candid two hour confession, Hunt eagerly described an organisation Kosta founded called the "Hunter Killer Club." She said that to become a member you had to kill somebody. Deidre was to become a member, therefore she killed a 19-year-old fellow drifter named Mark Kevin Ramsey.

The next day, Hunt led police to Kevin Ramsay's body in the woods, and a search of Kosta Fotopoulos' home yielded a .22 spattered with Kevin Ramsay's blood and a shocking videotape. In it, Kosta could be heard off-camera, instructing Deidre Hunt to kill Kevin Ramsay, who was seen tied to a tree. Deidre then fired her gun three times in Ramsay's chest before walking over to his body, picking up his head by the hair, and blowing his brains out.

In November of 1990, Kosta was convicted on two counts of first-degree murder for the Ramsay and Chase killings, two counts of attempting to murder his wife, Lisa, and two counts of soliciting to murder her. His mistress, Deidre Hunt, pled guilty. She, too, was sentenced to death. Nine years later, her sentence and conviction were thrown out on appeal. At a subsequent trial, she was granted a life sentence.
