This episode examines the case of Ted Bundy, a charming and intelligent man who preyed on university students. His reign of terror struck Seattle, Salt Lake City in Utah and Aspen, the Colorado ski resort.
The police finally caught up with him, but he escaped from prison and fled to Florida, where he killed four more young women and a 12-year-old girl before being re-captured.
Bundy conducted his own lawsuit, but his skilful defence was not enough to save him from the electric chair in 1989. America's one-time most wanted man admitted to killing 23 women although the police believed he had taken the lives of far more.
Another travelling killer, John Armstrong, was arrested on 12th April 2000, on suspicion of murdering three prostitutes. In fact Armstrong, a former US navy seaman, had killed prostitutes all around the world, in at least 30 places as far apart as Thailand, Japan, Korea and Israel.
A seemingly normal young man, Armstrong had developed a hatred for prostitutes and believed it his duty to kill them wherever he met one in his travels around the world.
Lastly Christopher Wilder who crossed America, fleeing the police hunt. Born in Australia, he moved to the US where he killed his first victim. Acting on the evidence of a witness the police called him in for questioning, but Wilder took off, and embarked on a spree of kidnap, rape, assault and murder which ranged across the US, including Florida, Georgia, Texas, Kansas, California and New Hampshire.
By the 1st of April 1984 Wilder had killed at least seven young women. The end finally came in Colebrook, New Hampshire. Recognised by two state troopers Wilder went for his gun, but in the ensuing struggle, he shot himself with his own weapon.
