On The Case: A Child Remembers
In February 2006 Detective Reyes receives a phone call from 30-year-old Vol Thompson, who is wondering about the investigation into his mother's 1990 murder. Vol believes his mother, Jane Thompson, was killed by her husband, Bobby Woods and that his younger half-brother, Josh, witnessed the murder as a two year old. Detective Reyes re-interviews the sons, discovers their stories are identical to the ones they told police 16 years earlier, and expands his investigation to include other family members. Cameras are rolling as a relative of suspect, Bobby Woods, tells police Woods confessed to him. According to the relative, Woods said he beat Jane Thompson to death with a sawed off shotgun. An autopsy report confirms Thompson died of blunt force trauma. In the evidence room are items from Woods' car, collected ten days after the murder. Detective Reyes finds a bloodied towel that holds a single hair and a scattering of woodchips. Lab testing will reveal if the blood and hair belong to his victim, but Reyes believes the woodchips are consistent with those of a sawed-off shotgun. This physical evidence coupled with his witness statements builds a strong case against Bobby Woods. SPECIAL FEATURES
