1 February 1910: Famous murderer Dr Crippen poisons and shoots his adulterous wife
Like Arthur Miller’s marriage to Marilyn Monroe, widower Dr Crippen’s marriage to the strongly sexual ‘Belle Elmore’ was unlikely to be happy ever after. By the time they settled in London, they were both cheating on the other, Cora physically, and Crippen intellectually. To make the separation permanent, Crippen tried to poison her. But the doctor’s dosage made her instead excitable, and panicking, he shot her.
