01 March - Lindbergh baby kidnapped. Celebrity couple find ransom note

American Charles Lindbergh was the first man to fly solo across the Atlantic and it made him a global celebrity. He married socialite Anne Morrow and the birth of their son, Charles, in 1930 was widely reported and was a welcome distraction to the world-wide Great Depression.
