Ruth Ellis was a British murderess and the 15th and last woman to be hanged in the United Kingdom. Convicted of the murder of her lover, David Blakely and hanged at London’s Holloway Prison at age 27, on 13 July 1955, she never doubted that she deserved to die for killing the man she loved. Her execution sparked a public outcry that eventually ended in the abolition of the death penalty in Britain.
