Northern Bank Robbery
It was one of the biggest cash robberies in UK history and was planned with great precision. It occurred at a delicate time in the peace process in Northern Ireland, adding unwanted political pressure to the proceedings.
On 20th December 2004, the cash centre of Northern Bank’s headquarters in Belfast was raided and £26.5 million was stolen. Ten people were arrested, three were charged in connection with the robbery but no-one has yet been charged with physically carrying out the raid. The investigation continues.
