RECENT QUESTIONS

Q. The entire world was quite disturbed at what happened at Virginia Tech. Are these types of psychological problems, with individual deciding to take a gun and executing revenge on others, only a by-product of American society?

Hi,

I appreciate your question. It is my opinion that the incidents at Virginia Tech reflect the ease with which Americans (and people in countries in which shootings like this have occurred, including the Netherlands, Japan and Germany) have an easy availability of guns.

Anyone without a criminal record has been able to easily obtain firearms for years as part of the Constitution of the US and "the right to bear arms". Unfortunately, it is the person without the criminal history who can perpetrate these crimes. You are not wrong in your assumptions. We all wish we could find a way to keep guns out of the hands of these unstable people.
