I was initially trained as a general Psychiatrist, learning the supposed characteristics of criminal behaviour from books. Now, I see that psychiatry cannot begin to diagnose the criminality that occurs. My work with serial killers has taught me that there is no medical or psychological explanation for how these people develop or why they kill. It has taught me that many non-human characteristics can exist in people who are viewed as less than human, less than animal, or downright evil. I do not believe that all humans are bad or criminal or that being evil is the true nature of humanity.
